God is original in all he does. God is not a Xerox machine, he doesn’t create copies. HE is the original author, artist, architect, and engineer of all things. His masterpieces are perfect. Now think about this: every masterpiece bears the signature of its creator. Ephesians 2:10 says that we are the masterpiece of God. This means that we (as God’s creation) all bear the signature of our creator! Have you ever taken a moment to think about how multifaceted God really is? God is so infinite in his attributes and possibilities that he has created all mankind in his image and yet, not any two human beings bear the same fingerprint or DNA. |
This distinctiveness and uniqueness is God’s signature. So, if you are uniquely created in God’s image and likeness, why would you ever want to be more like somebody else when that somebody else already exists and has their own divine purpose? God doesn’t need two of the same person for any job.
When we try to be somebody else we are actually plagiarizing their identity. The most simplistic definition of plagiarizing is copying and pasting what somebody else has created, thus taking the credit for somebody’s else’s creation. If you are copying and using somebody else’s identity, you are essentially plagiarizing God, as he is the supreme author and creator of everyone! I do not believe that this is robbing God as much as it is robbing yourself and everybody else of the blessing that you were created to be. If we have been uniquely created with specific talents, abilities, and methods and yet, we have abandoned everything that makes us unique in order to be accepted, the redeeming purpose of our life is being sabotaged by our pride.
When God created the heavens and the earth, he paused and proclaimed, “It is good.” God created you, knit you together in your mother’s womb, you are fearfully and wonderfully made, and therefore, when God looks at you, he says, “I did good!” You are not flawed, you are not a clone and you are not fresh off of some divine Xerox machine. You are part of God’s perfect plan to reveal his character and nature to the world around you. You have been perfectly and uniquely cut, much like a key, and there are locks that only you can open. So, for this reason, I encourage you to be willing to shed your self-imposed identity and allow for the light of God’s perfect love to reveal to you who you really are; to yourself and to the world around you.
“For the creation waits with eager longing for the revealing of the sons of God.” Romans 8:19
